Plan Your Fall Getaway in Long Island

Summer isn’t the only time to enjoy what nature has to offer in Long Beach! Fall is harvest season and a special time to be outside in the northeast. Long Beach and the surrounding area has not only beaches, but also spectacular farms, foliage and activities that come to life during the autumn months.

Here are some ideas to take advantage of the Fall season in Long Island.

See Fall Foliage

Although upstate New York is known for its seasonal foliage, Long Beach has its share of nearby scenic drives and hikes. Time your visit with the peak-foliage season, follow the New York fall foliage report. Then, head to these parks:

Connetquot River State Park Preserve: Oakdale, NY 11769
Sunken Meadow State Park: Rte. 25A and Sunken Meadow Pkwy., Kings Park, NY 11754
Oyster Bay National Wildlife Refuge: Oyster Bay, NY 11771

Celebrate the Local Fall Festival

October 12-13, 10 am to 5 pm at Kennedy Plaza
For the 23rd year, Long Beach will pull out all the stops to celebrate Fall. This family-friendly event will include a pumpkin bounce house, petting zoo, haunted house, carousel, hay wagon and fire engine rides. A costume parade for children will take place on October 11 at noon. In the meantime, adults can enjoy  tastings at the food and wine tent.

Historical Society: Murder Mystery Play

October 25-27, Long Beach Historical Society
Get in the Halloween spirit by taking part in an exciting and suspenseful event crafted by Long Beach Historical Society. For only $35, you’ll have the chance to become a detective and compete with other participants to solve the crime.

Go Apple Picking

Collecting ripe fruit in local orchards is one of the best parts of fall. Long Island has a great selection of farms, many little over an hour’s drive from The Allegria. Gather the family and take a roadtrip to one of these locations:

Lewin Farms: 812 Sound Avenue, Calverton, NY 11933
Milk Pail Orchard: 1346 Montauk Hwy, Water Mill, NY 11976
Seven Ponds Orchard: 65 7 Ponds Rd, Water Mill, NY 11976, USA

Visit a Pumpkin Patch

Fall isn’t fall without a few Jack-o’-lanterns adorning your doorstep. Choosing your own pumpkin is a favorite seasonal activity and there are plenty of pumpkin farms near Long Beach, NY. Here are our top picks:

Brightwaters Farms: 1624 Manatuck Blvd, Bay Shore NY 11706
Friendly Farms: 832 Merrick Avenue, East Meadow, NY
Schmitt’s Family Farm: 26 Pinelawn Rd, Melville, NY 11747

Find your way through a corn maze

When the perfect autumn weather arrives, make a day of it and spend the day drinking cider, hopping on hay rides and finding your way through corn mazes. These are our favorite spots on Long Island:

Fairview Farm: 19 Horsemill Lane, Bridgehampton, NY 11932
Hank’s Pumpkintown: 240 Montauk Hwy., Watermill, NY 11976
Harbes Orchard Riverhead: 5698 Sound Ave, Riverhead NY
