August and September mean one thing in the world of tennis: the US Open. The Billie Jean King National Tennis Center is getting ready to unroll its red carpet to welcome the stars of professional tennis.
The last Grand Slam of the year will run from August 28 to September 10, 2017. Tickets are already on sale and The Allegria Hotel is ready to make your experience unforgettable. Follow these recommendations to ensure you get the most out of your visit.
Let’s start with the obvious choice: booking with us. You want to avoid the rammed packed accommodations located close to Flushing Meadows. We know you want to be at the center of it all, but you also want a place to rest and prepare for the exciting days of powerful serves, tiebreakers and match points. The Allegria Hotel is situated less than an hour drive from the US Open venue and that hour makes the difference: your room will be in the only hotel located on the Long Beach, NY boardwalk. Book our Rise and Shine package with your stay and indulge in a hearty breakfast that will energize you for the day ahead.
The week of August 21 to 27 is the Fan Week: qualifying tournaments, pros practices, draws announcements, Arthur Ashe Kids’ Day, and much more await you. Many events are free and open to the public, so if you want to avoid larger crowds but still see some of your favorite players practicing, consult the event’s schedule to choose your preferred activity.
Once the US Open is inaugurated, you have a few decisions to make before heading to the National Tennis Center: either spending your time on the side courts or attending matches at the stadiums. Keep in mind that by purchasing Grounds Admission Tickets, you have access to side courts with great players, but you would be unable to see matches played at the stadiums, where the world’s top players bravely fight to overcome each other. This year Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Andy Murray, Alexander Zverev and Dominic Thiem are expected to top the male rankings, while Kristyna Pliskova, Simona Halep, Angelique Kerber, Garbine Muguruza and Venus Williams are the top female players expected to appear.
We recommend allotting a whole day to truly make the most of your visit. Wear comfortable, light clothing and protect yourself from the sun with hats, sunglasses and sunscreen. If you are staying through the evening, bring a light jacket because matches have been known to continue past midnight!
Check the screens near the fountains to find out when your favorite players are practicing. A good rule of thumb is that players usually practice 3-4 hours before their match, but since queues are long, plan on arriving at least two hours before their scheduled practice.
Between matches, tour the vast complex, pop in and out of souvenir shops and choose from a wide variety of food vendors. And, as always, whenever you feel the need to withdraw from the buzz of tennis, head back to your hotel room at The Allegria and enjoy a beautiful, sit-down meal at the Atlantica Restaurant with the ocean by your side.
