An Afternoon with Kids in Long Beach

Long Beach is a kid-friendly city with waterfront parks, diverse attractions, and tasty treats, perfect for a getaway filled with new adventures. From skateparks to spraygrounds, make the most of your family-fun vacation with our recommendations. Here are a few Long Beach afternoon activities that you - and the kids - will love.

Clark Street Park

Visit this ‘sprayground’ north of downtown to give the kids some much needed cool down time. Make a game of it and have your kids try to dodge the jets of water from pipes, shower heads, and even from the floor in this fun sprinkler park. Simply press the black top of the pole at the entrance for unlimited water fun. The free park also has an adjacent playground with a rope climbing tower, swings, and an area for parents to sit in the shade.

Grab a Slice of Pizza

Kids and pizza are a natural combination. Take the kids for a pie at Gino’s Long Beach. Only a short walk from Allegria, this beloved eatery serves up authentic Italian fare in a family-friendly pizzeria. While the kiddos chow down on some thin crust pizza, splurge on one of Gino’s casual Italian meals. Visitors rave about the fried zucchini, Rigatoni Pugliese, and the classic Affogato espresso poured over sweet vanilla ice cream.

Magnolia Playground

The beachside playground is nestled right up against the Long Island Boardwalk and only a 3-minute walk from Allegria Hotel. The newly renovated play area has a pirate shipwreck and nautical theme which is perfect for your little adventurers. Watch your youngsters have fun on swings, slides, monkey bars, playhouses, see-saws, and more. Make sure to pack sunscreen for your visit, shade is hard to come by in this open space.

Cool Down with Ice Cream

There is no shortage of tasty frozen treat shops in Long Beach to cool off on a hot summer’s day. Swing by Tutti Frutti Frozen Yogurt on West Park Avenue, Baskin-Robbins on East Park Avenue, or the Cultured Yogurt & Waffle Bar ice cream truck located on the Long Beach Boardwalk. Let the kids design their own waffle dessert at Cultured Yogurt’s Waffle Bar. They’ll love adding signature toppings to create a personal wafflewich to snack on.

Long Beach Skatepark

Take National Boulevard north towards the bay to Long Beach Skatepark. The small, ‘L’ shaped park is great for little skaters of all ages. You’ll find a medium-sized bowl, an A-frame with hubbas and rails, flat bar, euro gap, fun box, and two rollers - all flowing into a horseshoe bowl. Have a lazy afternoon overlooking the bay while the kids have fun on wheels.
