Are you bringing the family down to Long Beach this July 4th Weekend? You should. Long Beach, New York, is the perfect family getaway. Starting with its short travel time from NYC to its gorgeous beach, there’s plenty of reason to bring the whole family to the City by the Sea. Here are our top family-friendly activities in Long Beach this summer:
Naturally, the beach is Long Beach’s main family-friendly attraction. But even more appealing than spending your days on the beach is staying on the beach. Nothing makes a family beach vacation go smoother than walking out of the hotel room and onto the white sands. And at the Allegria Hotel, that’s what we’re all about. In addition to our beachfront property, we also offer a ton of beach activities. Think beach volleyball, paddle boarding, and even mini golf.
Another family-friendly perk of staying at the Allegria Hotel comes in the form of surf. Did you know that Long Beach is one of the top surfing destinations on the East Coast? And you can try it out with surf classes at the Allegria Hotel. We’ve partnered with Skudin Surf, one of the top surf schools in the country. Choose from group classes and private lessons, both of which can be done as a family. Whether it’s hanging ten together or wiping out, this is a perfect opportunity for some family bonding.
Throughout July and August, the City of Long Beach is holding “Family Fun in the Park,” a series of activities and arts & crafts for children throughout the different parks and outdoor spaces in the city. Activities include safari hunts, mask-making, tie-dye, and meet-n-greets with characters like Wonder Woman and Belle. For a more detailed list of activities, as well as location information, consult the City of Long Beach calendar here.
In case your little ones don’t take well to the sun and sand, there are still ways to get out in nature during your vacation in Long Beach. About 20 minutes up the road from the Allegria Hotel, there’s the Center for Science Teaching and Learning, a nature preserve geared toward kids. Located inside Tanglewood Preserve in Rockville Centre, NY, this science center has a farm animal petting zoo, exotic animal exhibits, and a hummingbird and butterfly sanctuary, giving kids much more interaction with the animals than possible at a city zoo.
What would be a summer trip to the beach without ice cream? An incomplete one. While Long Beach does have its fair share of frozen treats, there’s one in particular you must try. Ralph’s Famous Italian Ices are a local gem - and a sure way to keep the kids happy after a long day of swimming and fun in the sun. Since 1928, Ralph’s has been serving up the ultimate Long Beach treat. Basically, you can’t leave Long Beach without having an authentic Italian ice from the original Ralph’s.
