This park is a series of woodland gardens spread over 8 acres whose purpose it is to restore Long Island’ ecological heritage by recreating the flora that existed when the first settlers arrived in New York. This preserve is enormous! A total of 3,473 acres are home to protected flora and fauna. Rare birds nest here, deer, game and other mammals abound. Fishing is allowed with a permit only. Plus, it has more than 50 miles of trails! Go for a trail run, a mountain bike ride, horseback ride or take a group hike.

Those of your looking for open-water swimming or other water sports in calm waters, head to Sunken Meadow in Long Island Sound. The park also contains a varied topography-you can find hilly terrain perfect for a challenging run or flat stroll across the boardwalk. Intermediate golfers can check out the 27-hole golf course.
